About Victoria Falls National Park
Victoria Falls is the largest curtain of falling water on Earth — a 1.7-km-wide cascade plunging 108 meters into the Batoka Gorge with a roar audible from 40 km away and spray visible from 50 km. The Kololo people named it Mosi-oa-Tunya ("The Smoke That Thunders"), and David Livingstone, the first European to see it in 1855, called it "the most wonderful sight I had witnessed in Africa." The Zimbabwe side offers 16 viewing points along a rainforest-lined path, providing the best panoramic views of the falls. The surrounding national park protects a pocket of lush rainforest created by the permanent spray, home to rare ferns, orchids, and wildlife.
