About Lake Kariba
Lake Kariba is one of the world's largest man-made lakes and one of Africa's most scenic — a vast inland sea stretching 220 km along the Zambia-Zimbabwe border, fringed by game-rich shorelines and dotted with islands. Created by the damming of the Zambezi River in 1958 (and the dramatic Operation Noah rescue of thousands of animals from rising waters), the lake has become a premier destination for houseboat safaris, tiger fishing, and spectacular wildlife viewing. The drowned trees rising from the lake create a hauntingly beautiful landscape, especially at sunset, while the Matusadona National Park on the southern shore offers exceptional game viewing from both water and land.
