About Hwange National Park
Hwange is Zimbabwe's largest and most famous national park — home to one of Africa's greatest elephant populations (over 40,000) and an extraordinary diversity of wildlife across 14,651 km². The park's pumped waterholes are its secret weapon, drawing spectacular wildlife concentrations during the dry season. Hwange sits on the edge of the Kalahari Desert, creating vast teak woodlands and open pans that support 107 mammal species and over 400 bird species. The park gained worldwide attention as the home of Cecil the lion and continues to be a stronghold for both lions and the endangered African wild dog.
