About Gonarezhou National Park
Gonarezhou ("Place of the Elephants" in Shona) is Zimbabwe's second-largest national park and one of southern Africa's last great wilderness frontiers. This 5,053 km² park is part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park linking Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and South Africa. The park's most dramatic feature is the Chilojo Cliffs — towering red sandstone escarpments that glow crimson at sunset. Gonarezhou's remoteness means it receives a tiny fraction of the visitors that flock to Hwange, offering a truly exclusive wilderness experience with large elephant herds, predators, and rare species like nyala and suni.
