About Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is Uganda's smallest national park but packs an extraordinary punch — encompassing three of the Virunga volcanic peaks (Muhabura, Gahinga, and Sabinyo) and hosting both mountain gorillas and the endangered golden monkey. The park's bamboo-draped volcanic slopes provide a dramatic setting for gorilla trekking that is distinctly different from Bwindi's dense forest. Mgahinga is the only place in Uganda where golden monkey tracking is available, and the chance to summit the volcanic peaks adds an adventure dimension. The park also protects the Garama Cave, culturally significant to the Batwa pygmy people.
