About Ngorongoro Crater
The Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest unbroken volcanic caldera and one of Africa's most awe-inspiring natural wonders. This 600-meter-deep, 260 km² crater floor is a self-contained wildlife paradise, home to approximately 25,000 large animals including the densest concentration of lions in Africa and one of the last viable populations of critically endangered black rhinoceros. The surrounding Ngorongoro Conservation Area also contains Olduvai Gorge, the 'Cradle of Mankind,' where some of humanity's earliest ancestors were discovered.
