About Pilanesberg National Park
Set within the crater of a 1.2-billion-year-old extinct volcano, Pilanesberg National Park is one of South Africa's most accessible Big Five destinations — just two hours from Johannesburg and adjacent to Sun City resort. The park's unique alkaline ring complex geology creates a dramatic landscape of hills, valleys, and a central lake (Mankwe Dam) that attracts abundant wildlife. Despite its relatively compact 572 km² size, Pilanesberg supports an impressive diversity of over 7,000 animals including all Big Five species.
