About Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park
Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park holds the distinction of being Africa's oldest proclaimed nature reserve, established in 1895 by the Zulu King to protect the dwindling rhino populations. This visionary conservation effort saved the white rhinoceros from the brink of extinction — from just 20 individuals in the 1950s to over 20,000 worldwide today. The park's 96,000 hectares encompass two distinct reserves connected by a wilderness corridor. The park pioneered the concept of wilderness trails in Africa, and its 5-day Primitive Trail remains one of the continent's most authentic bush experiences.
