About Nyungwe Forest National Park
Nyungwe Forest is one of Africa's oldest and most biodiverse montane rainforests — a vast emerald canopy stretching across southwestern Rwanda's mountains. Home to 13 primate species including habituated chimpanzees and the spectacular L'Hoest's monkey, Nyungwe is a primate lover's paradise. The park's 130-meter canopy walkway — the only one in East Africa — offers a bird's-eye perspective over the ancient forest canopy. With 310 bird species (including 29 endemics), 1,068 plant species, and 75 mammal species, Nyungwe is one of the most biologically important forests in Africa.
