About Akagera National Park
Akagera National Park is Rwanda's only Big Five savanna park and one of Africa's most remarkable conservation comeback stories. After being decimated during the 1994 genocide and its aftermath, the park has been transformed through a partnership between the Rwanda Development Board and African Parks. Lions were reintroduced in 2015 and black rhinos in 2017, completing the Big Five roster. The park encompasses a spectacular landscape of rolling hills, savanna grasslands, and a chain of lakes fed by the Akagera River β the most scenic lake system in East Africa.
